The federal government is accepting comments on the definition of a motorcycle in lieu of updating the vehicle identification numbering system to comply with soon to be revised ISO standards. This would be an excellent forum for ABATE members to address concerns about the moped/motorcycle standards or the issue of what I call the "Frankenstein motorcycles", those contraptions that have covered roofs, steering wheels, and windshield wipers, but only have three wheels to skirt the federal definition of an automobile.

Deadline is Wednesday for MN Motorcycle Safety Advisory Committee Applications

The Minnesota Motorcycle Safety Advisory Committee (MMSAC) is accepting applications for four openings on this important panel.  The Minnesota Motorcycle Safety Advisory Committee (MMSAC) provides input to the Department of Public Safety, evaluates and recommends strategies to improve the safety of motorcycle riders and their passengers, motorcycle rider training, rider testing and licensing, and public information and education activities.

ABATE Needs Volunteers for Minnesota Vikings Ride

Volunteers needed to promote ABATE of Minnesota at the Annual Vikings Ride


Jon Stutelberg, Metro Chapter, has promoted ABATE of Minnesota at this event for many years. Jon needs  helpers at the Metrodome and people to sell memberships at the event at Canterbury. This is easy duty and not a huge time commitment.  Help will be needed  on July 10th from approximately 11:00 am until 3:30 pm.

New Vertical Plate Law 8/1/2010

A Victory for Custom Motorcycle Riders and Builders in Minnesota


Some of you may remember that the Minnesota State Patrol brought some concerns about vertical license plates to the Minnesota Legislature during the 2008 session. The state patrol, like many other police agencies, use license plate scanners in their patrol cars that can read up to 1,000 plates per minute, the problem was they couldn't read the vertical plates on motorcycles or cars. It didn't take too much to sneak this law through and after the 2008 session vertical plates were illegal, but not for long.
